Travel tips for Thailand

Good to know before you go

  • EntryFill in the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online before you fly, and check the visa rules for your passport.
  • Getting aroundThe BTS Skytrain and MRT beat Bangkok traffic. Use Grab or Bolt instead of unmetered taxis.
  • Money & tippingCarry cash for street food and markets. Tipping isn't required; 20–50 baht is appreciated.
  • RespectCover shoulders and knees at temples, take off shoes indoors, and never criticise the royal family.
  • PlugsType A, C and O sockets, 220 V.
  • Watch outIf a stranger says a temple is "closed today" and offers a tuk-tuk ride instead, it’s a scam.
