About this tour
Step beyond Bangkok's usual temple circuit and discover four extraordinary sights that most visitors never see — from a glowing emerald pagoda to a towering pink Ganesha, a floating riverside shrine, and one of Thailand's oldest wooden markets. Begin the day at Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen, home to one of Bangkok's most breathtaking modern wonders: a colossal emerald glass stupa suspended inside a five-tiered white pagoda. Beneath a hand-painted ceiling depicting the cosmos, the jewel-like chedi seems to float in mid-air. Outside, a serene 69-metre bronze Buddha rises above the temple grounds, watching over the community. Continue into Chachoengsao province to Wat Saman Rattanaram, famous for its enormous reclining pink Ganesha — the Hindu god of wisdom and new beginnings. At 22 metres long and 16 metres tall, the vibrant statue draws devotees who come to leave offerings of fruit, flowers, and sugarcane. Explore the surrounding shrines dedicated to Chinese, Hindu, and Thai deities, each rendered in vivid, larger-than-life form. Next, visit Wat Phrong Akat, a peaceful temple set along the river and reached by crossing a striking bridge flanked by giant naga serpents. Inside the temple hall, the highly revered Luang Pho Phrong Akat Buddha image is a site of pilgrimage for Thais seeking blessings for health and prosperity. The riverside setting makes it a quiet contrast to the busy shrines earlier in the day. Finish at Khlong Suan Market, a 100-year-old wooden marketplace straddling the border of Chachoengsao and Samut Prakan. Wander narrow lanes lined with weathered shophouses selling traditional Thai snacks, vintage keepsakes, herbal remedies, and hand-made sweets. It's an ideal spot to try regional street food and pick up souvenirs you won't find in central Bangkok. Please note: Entrance to all four sites is free. Modest dress is required at the temples — shoulders and knees must be covered. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
